TRUE health is wellness on all levels!!!

It's the New Year 2023!

Thank goodness 2022 is over with! Whew! I don't know about you, but I, for one, am ready for things to change for the better. It seems that ever since Covid happened in March of 2020, we have been in a state of flux ever since (with no Flux-Capacitor to transport us out!) I stayed closed after the lockdown lifted because I was having trouble hiring caregivers to relieve me to work with clients. Then 2021 and 2022 were filled with health challenges for our whole family, including myself. I am feeling quite overdue for positive change.

The New Year has always been a time of "new beginnings" for me, and I enjoy revisiting my annual goals, habits, life values and such and updating them for the new year. Really, we can do this ANY day of the year. We don't have to wait for January 1. Celebrating the New Year does give us a natural point to jump from though. So, I want to encourage you to "DECIDE" things are going to be different this year.

1. Make decision.

Then, think about what you would like to see different and describe it including "feeling words".

2. Create vision - a mini-movie of how your day could look.

Next, write out individual tasks that would contribute to that vision (5-20 minutes each) and plan to include a few of those tasks in your day tomorrow.

3. Actually make the changes.

This is it! The ugly truth - as it were! It's a matter of doing the right actions throughout the day, then again the next day, and again the next. Consistency. If one day falls apart, you pick it back up the next day.  Over time, this will create success! Join me over on Facebookyes and share YOUR successes with me.

European Health Wisdom Recommended by Mayo Clinic

Embrace centuries-old European health wisdom by including massage in your self-care plan as much as you possibly can. Massage can be a powerful tool to help you take charge of your health and well-being. Massage is generally considered part of complementary and alternative medicine. It's increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations.(Mayo)

Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension. While more research is needed to confirm the benefits of massage, some studies have found massage may also be helpful for:

Anxiety
Digestive disorders
Fibromyalgia
Headaches
Insomnia related to stress
Myofascial pain syndrome
Soft tissue strains or injuries
Sports injuries
Temporomandibular joint pain

In addition to the physical benefits for specific conditions or diseases, some people enjoy massage because it often produces a sense of being cared for, of comfort and connection. Many people find that during or after a life-changing event, such as divorce, it can be an emotional lifesaver. Brush aside any thoughts that massage is only a feel-good way to indulge or pamper yourself. To the contrary, massage can be a powerful tool to help you take charge of your health and well-being, whether you have a specific health condition or are just looking for another stress reliever. You can even learn how to do self-massage or how to engage in massage with a partner at home.(Mayo)

What is Wellness Coaching?

My health motto: "true health is wellness on all levels" means that health is not the absence of disease,

but rather,

health is when all the systems of the body are functioning at their optimal best and there is a balance between the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of ourselves. Someone could have great lab reports, but if they are engaging in destructive self-talk and can't manage emotions well enough to have healthy communication in their most important relationships, resulting in frequent drama in their life, they are not enjoying TRUE health. TRUE health is an integration of all these facets of oneself building us up into a resilient, capable human being with a balanced lifestyle.

This is the basis of wellness coaching, having someone committed to help you evaluate your current situation, formulate a plan for growth and do-able bite-sized changes, and help you implement it and tweak it until it becomes a part of your lifestyle.

A wellness coach works with you in a "global" fashion, rather than split you up into parts that specialists each handle! Often, we find that issues are related, and that when one is addressed, others quietly decrease in severity and often disappear.

Why should I try massage?

Massage therapy is a deliciously relaxing and therapeutic piece of a wellness lifestyle treating you to:

1. nurturing touch (which studies have shown is healing all in itself),

2. therapeutic targeted techniques to address your health or pain concerns, and

3. a great way to soothe tensions and "reboot and recover" after a stressful week.

4. stimulation of your lymphatic system and blood circulation

5. improved function

6. flushing of toxins from your tissues

Studies show that non-sexual, nurturing touch such as what is received during massage actually delivers measurable health benefits including soothing the central nervous system, lowering blood pressure, increasing neurotransmitter production, regulating respiration, stimulating circulation and contributing to emotional well-being by helping you to learn to relax deeply and feel terrific.
